The Yobe State government in northeast Nigeria has said 1 million animals will be vaccinated following reported cases of animal diseases in some parts of the state.
The exercise would cover sheep, cattle, goats, as well as dogs, said Mustapha Gaidam, program manager for the Yobe Pilot Livestock Development Program (YLPDP), in Damaturu, the state capital.
The diseases were imported to the state by migratory animals, thereby exposing other animals in the state, he added.
He urged livestock farmers and community leaders to report abnormalities in their animals to area veterinary offices for quick intervention.
